guesssssssssss what? It’s time for Awesomest tokusatsu BGM on my playlist!
…actually, scratch that. It’s just the Awesomest BGM on my playlist. some of them. also ignore the prefixes and sometimes I take certain liberties in translating titles ["dai kessen," which I think just means "big battle" into "explosive battle," for instance]
bouga no mai a dance in a state of trance – gekiranger
Epic. That is all.
gekitohja burning up! – gekiranger
Note that super sentai songs are often split into three (more or less) parts: this is probably so we wouldn’t end up with songs 0:50 long. Some people get annoyed at the multiple-parts-in-one-song, but personally I like it because short BGMs are short. Anyway, about this one: I love the beginning of the second part. It is awesome. And awesome. And amazing. And awesome. C:
goetsudoshuu! gekirintohja hong kong dai kessen! temporary truce! gekirintohja’s hong kong explosive battle! – gekiranger
Same as above, really. There is a pause, and then it seques into the really good stuff. :d But that is not to say only one part of the song that is epic!
hitoshizuku no kibou a drop of hope – gekiranger
Oh gods. This song makes me cry. Like, every time. ;;A;; It is sad. And epic. And sad. And epically sad. And shhfdkfhdkjfjk;bawwwwwwwwwwwwwww
yomigaetta akumu gen juken the revived nightmare, gen juken – gekiranger
There is something of an epic feel in this song, from the epic sweep of the opening notes into the degeneration of the piece into grungy rock/metal (rock-metal?). I think it perfectly captures the essence of Gen Juken, but I don’t know if listeners who have not watched the series would think about it, |D;
t.n.d orchestra attack ride – kamen rider decade
The initials stand for “The Next Decade,” which is the name of the actual song by Gackt that I don’t particularly like. But this instrumental orchestra version kicks all kinds of ass, from the sad opening parts to the upsweeping climax that I can imagine is calling Tsukasa to battle despite loss. Yea, it’s pretty awesome.
kieta kako disappeared time – kamen rider den-o
Another sad song! can anyone tell I’m addicted to sad BGMs? This one is just low-key the entire time, and yea, it does use strings and all of that “typical sad song instruments” ~eyeroll~ I mean, srsly. that’s like saying ‘this rock song has a typical rock guitar in it.’ neglecting the fact that rock is partly defined by the fucking guitar. it’s not even ‘using instruments typically found in sad songs to create a generic sad song that is neither creative, imaginative, nor evocative’. just ‘this sad song was created by the typical sad song instruments’. what the fuck are you even trying to say. but the composition is also stellar.
something treasured left behind already translated because i’m too lazy to look up what the Japanese was. OTL – shinkenger
OMG ANOTHER ONE. This one with a particular Shinkenger flavor. Also a definitive climax that Kieta Kako more or less lacked (in other words, Kieta Kako is slightly more atmospheric, Something Treasured Left Behind somewhat more of a “plot,” if you will.
they are called “samurai” – shinkenger
It’s an epic one. Shinkenger music tends to feel more “epic” than the previous Go-onger or previouser Gekiranger music, probably because Shinkenger was composed with more of a classical orchestra in mind, I think. In any case, this one, being the BGM that ‘announces’ the Shinkenger’s arrival, is more epic than even usual. It made my ears explode with it. Mostly because I turned the volume up to be surrounded by the amazingness. :DDD
kaiba gozaburo – yuugiou: duel monsters
…You know, I’ve never really understood why this song was named after this guy. Considering the first time this was ever played in the series, to my knowledge, was a Kaiba Seto-centric scene. ._. But it was the scene where Gozaburo was all “IM GONNA KILL YOUUUU” and Kaiba was “FUCK YOU BITCHHHHHHH” and slammed his hand on the button that turned the KaibaBlimp into the KaibaJet, so I guess it works. |D
kami no ikari wrath of the gods – yuugiou: duel monsters
Yuugiou God Card music. Enough said.
boundless spirit – yuugiou: duel monsters
Another one of those sad atmospheric ones. Despite its misleading name, it is not a happy or energetic song. :’(
fang of critias – yuugiou: duel monsters
Now this. This is the shit. This was originally played during the first appearance of Timaes(sp?), you know, despite the name of the song -_-; and was used during the epic scenes of the Orichalcos arc, but it was so epic, it got carried over into the Memory World arc, despite it being blatantly out of place. Laughingly out of place, considering the music specific to that arc were intermittently sprinkled with ethnic-sounding beats/instruments/techniques/leitmotifs reminiscent of the music associated with the Ishtar family. That is how epic this song is that the producers or whatev was going to rely on it to give epic scenes that epic feel. Enough of my rambling (and rampant redundancy), you are going to listen to this. NAO.
