oh for the love of–
I’ve just been reading this thread about Japanese->English romanizations, and the subject of Yagami Light came up…
…Yeah, I’m sure you can imagine. :|
There’s all this balh blah blah about how “Light” or “Raito” or “Write” is the correct spelling, and guys. There are these things called puns. Japanese authors do it on purpose. English is not the only godsdamn language in the fucking universe that engages in wordplay.

“Write?!” Who the hell would use “Write?!”

It’s part of the pun on his name: that his name in English has all these homophones (light, write, right) which do apply to him. And then Death Note got translated into English and all this wank started about which was “more correct because it’s obviously a reference to this” started, disregarding the fact that DN writer meant for there to be puns on his name to begin with.

CLEARLY “WRIGHT” IS CORRECT BECAUSE HIS NAME IS CLEARLY MEANT TO BE IN ENGLISH. ALSO JAPANESE WRITERS ARE TOO STUPID TO KNOW WHAT TO NAME THEIR CHARACTERS.
lol “Wright.” I wanna do that sometime just to piss people off.
